教會簡史 Our Story

  • 1969 年冬天，幾個講國語的家庭藉著華人浸信會開始了國語查經班。
  • 1973 年9月在台灣「循理會」李龍之牧師的鼓勵及大家同心禱告下，成立了「國語教會」並在九月最後一個主日借用美國循理會教堂點開始了第一次的主日崇拜。一年之內，教會人數從十幾位，增加到五十幾位。
  • 1977 年初神為我們預備了 Leahy Rd 的第一棟建築物。弟兄姊妹們用初筆訂金一萬多元買下第一間屬於自己的 “會堂”。並在其后很短的時間里靠自己的奉獻全部付清所需費用。購置新堂後不久, 就有新人藉本堂舉行婚禮。
  • 1977 - 1979 期間，教會工作由周天深傳道幫忙協理堂務。
  • 1979 年- 1980 年教會接著請陳彼得傳道牧會一年。
  • 1980 年 8 月台灣聖光神學院的田牧師夫婦來美服事我們教会。在他們此后牧會的三年中, 各种事工走入正常的軌道， 並有很多年青剛畢業和剛成家的弟兄姊妹們到來，給教會增加了更多的活力。教會人數和聖工需要不斷成長。發動了第一次建新堂的認献。
  • 1983 年田牧師離開教会前，訓練了王溫平，孔毅，及潘禮彬三位弟兄出來講道。金牧師於 1984 年九月上任並在十一週年的紀念主日，發動第二次建新堂認獻。
  • 1985 年 8 月我們成功地買下了 Beaverton Butner Rd 的新堂。主堂可以容納 200 人崇拜並有 10 間主日學教室。買堂所需款項也很快全部付清在金牧師服事教會的七年（1984-1991）里，成人主日學，青少年主日學團契，幼兒詩班，婦女會及全教會每年讀經計劃等事工愈加興旺。查經小組也增加到四個。 
  • 其中溫哥華小組在 1991 年四月完成政府註冊，成立了「溫哥華華人福音教會」並聘請神學畢業生朱裕華為首任牧師。
  • 金牧師於 1991 年八月前往遠東福音廣播服事；其间由陳思寧傳道自九月起暫理堂務。
  • 1992 年七月林來興牧師被任聘為教會牧師. 林牧師積極推動英語事工及粵語事工。英語崇拜於當年十月起在副堂舉行。十一月任聘了陳瑞騰傳道為粵語傳道，幫助推動教會的廣東話事工。
  • 1993 年七月教会正式正名為波特蘭華人福音教會, 與原註冊之英文名字 CEC 相符。

  • In the winter of 1969, several Mandarin-speaking families began a Mandarin Bible study group through the Chinese Baptist Church.
  • In September 1973, encouraged by Pastor Brian Lee of the Taiwan Methodist Church and through everyone's united prayers, the "Mandarin Church" was established, and the first Sunday worship service was held on the last Sunday of September at a Methodist church. Within a year, the church membership grew from a dozen to over fifty. 
  • In early 1977, God provided us with our first building on Leahy Road. The brothers and sisters raised an initial building fund of over ten thousand dollars to buy their first building and quickly paid off all the necessary expenses through their own donations. Shortly after purchasing the new building, a newlywed couple held their wedding there. 
  • From 1977 to 1979, Pastor Simon Chou assisted with church ministry. 
  • From 1979 to 1980, the church then invited Pastor Peter Chen to pastor for a year. 
  • In August 1980, Pastor John Tien and his wife from Holy Light Theological Seminary in Taiwan came to the US to minister to our church. During their three years of leadership, various ministries progressed smoothly, and many young brothers and sisters, recently graduated or newly married, joined, adding vitality to the church. The church's membership and ministry needed continuous growth, so we initiated our first pledging to purchase a new church building. 
  • Before Pastor Tien left the church in 1983, he trained three brothers — Brother Wang Wenping, Brother Kong Yi, and Brother Pan Libin (later Pastor Ricky) —to preach. Pastor Peter Chin was called to pastor the congregation in September 1984 and, on the church's eleventh anniversary Sunday, a second pledging to purchase a new church was initiated. 
  • In August 1985, we successfully purchased a new church on Beaverton Butner Rd. The main church can accommodate 200 people and has 10 Sunday School classrooms. The funds needed to purchase the church were quickly paid off. During Pastor Jin's seven years of service (1984-1991), the church's ministries flourished, including adult Sunday School, youth Sunday School, children's choir, women fellowship, and Bible reading plans. The number of Bible study groups also increased to four. 
  • The Vancouver cell group completed government registration in April 1991, establishing the Chinese Evangelical Church of Vancouver and appointing theology graduate Zhu Yuhua as their first pastor. 
  • Pastor Chin went to Far East Gospel Broadcasting in August 1991; during this time, Preacher Chen Sining temporarily took over church affairs from September.
  •  In July 1992, Pastor Peter Lim was appointed as the church's pastor. Pastor Lim actively promoted English and Cantonese ministries. English worship services were held in the annex starting in October of that year. In November, Preacher Chen Ruiteng was appointed as the Cantonese preacher to help promote the church's Cantonese ministry. 
  • In July 1993, the church was officially renamed Chinese Evangelical Church of Portland, which is consistent with its original registered English name, CEC. 

Expanding the vision...

  • 1993 年十一月劉貴祥傳道任英語傳道，協助林牧師一起推動英語事工， 其間增加了初中團契，專青團契， 英語崇拜亦由每月兩次改為每周一次。
  • 劉傳道走後，神又帶領歐牧師和師母來到我們中間, 全力推動英語事工。由於教會的人數日益增加和聖工的需要，教会在牧長們的帶領下， 於 2002 年買下了 Hillsboro 現在的這棟教会建筑。 新堂占地 5.8 畝， 建築面積三萬八千平方呎，有數十間房間可供主日學，辦公室，及小組活動使用。
  • 靠着主的信實，教会在一年內完成了主堂的改建並於當年三月二十日舉行獻堂典禮。
  • 2004 年四月李牧師離開教會去日本宣教，在他的推荐下，神把溫以諾牧師介紹給我們。溫牧師每周不辭辛勞為主傳講主日信息。
  • 2004 年六月英文部的歐牧師離開教会。
  • 2005-2006 年间，然而神也沒有應許天色常藍， 大家突然發現市政府發給我們的聚會臨時許可證不但每個房間只能容納五十人， 而且很快就要過期。 教會很可能會面臨被市府勒令停止使用的命運。 而溫牧師也在這個時候突然病倒， 並辭去牧職。
  • 感謝神這時候帶領李宏裕牧師担任中文部過渡牧師暫時休學來幫助我們。在李牧師和核心同工的帶領下，Mike 牧師被任聘為英文部代理牧師。同一時期，教会任聘了 Dan Santos 牧師來帶領青少年的事工。
  • 2006 年初黃榮光牧師開始擔任我們中文部的牧師。黃牧師通過主日講台和主日學牧養教會並開放自己的家建立週四查經小組。
  • 教会于 2007 年聘請李約翰牧師為英文部牧師。李牧師師母牧羊下有英文組的弟兄姊妹在生活及家庭中彼此相愛。他們和中文部的弟兄姊妹一起同心事奉主，並經常和中文部一起聯合崇拜。
  • 2007 年太英俊弟兄接替 Santos 牧師的青少年團契聖工。在他的忠心事奉和帶領下，教會的青少年靈命和人數都有迅速的成長。
  • 黃牧師于 2010 年八月離職，致力于他們原先就熱衷的中國及德國的宣教工場。
  • 2012 年二月教會任聘林在名牧師為中文部牧師。他和師母同心事奉。他们重於同工造就與小組發展。重視禱告會與主日學。弟兄姊妹唯有在靈裏成長才能使 CEC 在神的國度裏更加茁壯.
  • 2012 年九月教会聘請張南山傳道作為英文部牧師。他有良好的聖經基礎，有講道恩賜。平易近人。帶領英文部的弟兄姊妹在短短的幾個月內有迅速的發展。
  • 2015 年太英俊弟兄離開教會，由 Caleb Lu 弟兄接替青少年主任。
  • 2018 年八月張南山牧師因為要照顧年邁的父親離開我們回到家鄉 Kansas。
  • 2019 年十一月 Emilian Mihet 牧師接替英文牧師，並和林牧師一起積極推動教會的一年十個月的聖經通讀一遍的計劃。使弟兄姊妹們在神的話語中靈命得到造就和成長。
  • 2020 年六月，Caleb Lu 弟兄因為要全心讀神學院，放下青少年服事，由 Pastor Dan Son 接續青少年事工，直到 2022 年三月。
  • 2021 年八月，Jenny Kim 姐妹成為教會第一個全職的兒童事工主任。
  • 2022 年因為神有別的帶領，林牧師決定於六月放下服事。教會由溫以諾牧師担任教會的過渡牧師，負責主日講道，尋牧和教會章程的修訂事工。
  • 2023 年七月一日神差遣楊全榮擔任中文堂牧者。
  • 2023 年七月一日開始長老制度新教會章程，組織臨時領導團隊，開始尋找長老人選。
  • 2023 年九月十日 Stephen Stallard 從英文堂臨時牧者轉成英文堂全職牧者。
  • 中文堂的凌慶躍長老、王醒凡長老、和英文堂的吳大恩長老被呼召，和楊牧師和 Stallard 牧師成立 CEC 的長老團。
  • 2024 年十月一日 Bradley Trull 牧師成為青少年牧者。
  • 2026 年一月 Stephen Stallard 決定成為 Oklahoma Baptist University 的神學院教授，並全家搬到 Oklahoma。

  • In November 1993, Pastor Liu Guixiang became the English preacher, assisting Pastor Lim in promoting English ministry. During this time, junior high school fellowships and young adult fellowships were added, and English worship services were changed from twice a month to once a week. 
  • After Pastor Liu left, God led Pastor Ou and his wife to us, wholeheartedly promoting English ministry. Due to the increasing number of church members and the needs of our ministry, under the leadership of the pastors, the church purchased the current church building in Hillsboro in 2002. The new church occupies 5.8 acres, with a building area of 38,000 square feet, and has dozens of rooms for Sunday School, offices, and cell group fellowship. 
  • Through the Lord's faithfulness, the church completed the renovation of the new church building within a year and held a dedication ceremony on March 20th of that year. 
  • In April 2004, Pastor Calvin Lee left the church to go on missionary work in Japan. On his recommendation, God introduced Pastor Enoch Wan to us. Pastor Wan tirelessly preached Sunday messages for the Lord every week. 
  • In June 2004, Pastor Ou of the English ministry left the church. 
  • Between 2005 and 2006, however, the sky was not always clear. We suddenly discovered that the temporary meeting permits issued by the city not only limited each room to fifty people but were also about to expire. The church was likely facing being ordered to cease operations. Pastor Wan also suddenly fell ill at this time and resigned from his pastoral post. 
  • Thanks be to God for leading Pastor Calvin Lee to serve as the interim pastor of the Chinese congregation, temporarily taking a leave of absence from his studies to help us. Under the leadership of Pastor Lee and the core staff, Pastor Mike was appointed as the acting pastor of the English congregation. During the same period, the church appointed Pastor Dan Santos to lead youth ministry. 
  • In early 2006, Pastor Rong Guang Huang began serving as the pastor of our Chinese congregation. Pastor Huang pastored the church through the Sunday pulpit and Sunday School and opened his home to establish a Thursday Bible study group. 
  • In 2007, the church appointed Pastor John Lee as the English ministry pastor. Pastor Lee and his wife shepherded the English congregation, fostering mutual love among the brothers and sisters in their lives and families. They served the Lord together with the brothers and sisters in the Chinese congregation and frequently held joint worship services. 
  • In 2007, Brother Tai Yingjun succeeded Pastor Santos in his youth fellowship ministry. Under his faithful ministry and leadership, the spiritual life and number of the church's youth grew rapidly.
  • Pastor Huang left in August 2010 to dedicate himself to their previously passionate missionary work in China and Germany. 
  • In February 2012, the church appointed Pastor Caleb Lin as the Chinese ministry pastor. He and his wife served together. They emphasized edification of fellowship and cell group development, and valued prayer meetings and Sunday School. Only through spiritual growth can CEC flourish in God's Kingdom. 
  • In September 2012, the church appointed Pastor Nathan Chang as the English ministry pastor. He had a strong biblical foundation, a gift for preaching, and was approachable. He led the brothers and sisters in the English congregation to rapid growth within just a few months. 
  • In 2015, Brother Tai Yingjun left the church, and Brother Caleb Lu took over as the Youth Director. In August 2018, Pastor Nathan left to return to his hometown of Kansas to care for his elderly father. 
  • In November 2019, Pastor Emilian Mihet took over as English ministry pastor and, together with Pastor Lin, actively promoted the church's plan to read the Bible through the entirety of the Bible over a year (ten months), enabling brothers and sisters to grow spiritually in God's Word. 
  • In June 2020, Brother Caleb Lu had to step down from youth ministry to focus on seminary studies, and Pastor Dan Son took over youth ministry until March 2022. 
  • In August 2021, Sister Jenny Kim became the church's first full-time Director of Children Ministry. 
  • In 2022, due to God's other guidance, Pastor Caleb Lin decided to step down from ministry in June. Pastor Enoch Wan served as the interim pastor, responsible for Sunday sermons, pastoral recruitment, and revising the church bylaws. 
  • On July 1, 2023, God appointed Pastor Ken Yeo as the pastor of Chinese congregation. 
  • On July 1, 2023, a new church bylaw with an eldership system was implemented, a temporary leadership team was formed, and the search for elder candidates began.
  • On September 10, 2023, Pastor Stephen Stallard transitioned from temporary to full-time pastor of the English congregation. 
  • Elder Qingyue Ling, elder Xingfan Wang of the Chinese congregation and elder Dan Wu of the English congregation were called to form the elders alongside with Pastor Ken and Pastor Stallard.
  • On October 1, 2024, Pastor Bradley Trull became a youth pastor. 
  • In January 2026, Stephen Stallard decided to become a professor at the seminary of Oklahoma Baptist University and moved his family to Oklahoma.
